Acrylic on a fiberglass board, made to hang on the wall. Can be hung vertically or horizontally.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
The paintings in Between Sets come from Bailey Silva's ongoing Wipeout Series. In surfing, a wipeout is when you fall off your board while trying to catch a wave and end up disoriented underwater. Bailey paints that experience by breaking the scene into pieces and showing it from several angles at once, an idea borrowed from Cubism. Water is both her subject and a way to talk about movement, emotion, and staying calm under pressure. Each piece begins with her own time in the ocean and reflects a love for the places that shape us, inspire us, and keep us grounded.
Jackie Rey’s and the Donkey Mill Art Center are excited to partner in presenting rotating exhibitions featuring Hawaiʻi Island artists. This collaboration extends the Mill’s work beyond its campus, connecting artists with new audiences and creating more opportunities to discover and support the creative voices of our island community.
The first exhibition, Between Sets: Paintings by Bailey Silva, will be on view at Jackie Rey’s Kona from October 22, 2026, through January 2, 2027. An unveiling reception and meet-the-artist event will take place on Thursday, October 22, from 3:30 – 5:00pm at the restaurant.
All artwork purchases are available for pick up from the Donkey Mill Art Center starting on January 6, 2027. Please e-mail abbey@donkeymillartcenter.org for shipping options.
