Stoneware saucers made in Hawaii by Suzanne Wang

Dimensions:
Small: 4.5” dia x 1.25” H
Medium: 5” dia x 1.25” H

An eye-catching display piece to hold little things like rings, jewelry, incense or candies. Medium size saucers good for desserts or even kokedama (moss ball bonsai) plants. Delicately hand formed, using the Hawaiian kukui nut for texturing the surface.

Bio: Suzanne Wang is a ceramicist who currently lives and works from her home studio in rural Hakalau, on the Island of Hawaiʻi. Born in Taiwan, she grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and has spent several years on the east coast and Asia. She has a BA and MFA degree in scene design for theater and film. Her past work experience also includes product development in giftware and home decor, along with managing a small, artisanal tea company. In 2017, she became the first female and Western potter to complete a one-year apprenticeship in Mashiko, Japan with master potter Ken Matsuzaki.

Statement: I’m deeply aware of the connection between maker, object and user. Living on Hawaiʻi island, nature feeds my creativity. I’m moved by the complexities of our multicultural fabric and how it’s woven into the land. This exploration is carried into the clay, where I celebrate an East Asian aesthetic alongside the beauty of imperfection. Passionate about form and texture, I am drawn to primordial and abstract shapes to create timeless vessels that evoke a story and tap into another world.
